Shannell Oglesby, LPC

Shannell completed her Bachelors of Business Administration at Kennesaw State University in May 2007.  She completed her Masters of Science in Professional Counseling at Georgia State University in May 2011.

Shannell is a licensed professional counselor who loves being with and helping others.  She has a genuine passion and love for seeing others happy and thriving in life. She wants to help clients get to and become the best version of themselves that they can be.  She brings positivity, motivation, empathy, encouragement, and love to each client and each session.  She identifies mostly with a person-centered therapeutic approach but understands the need for other approaches such as cognitive behavior, solution focused, narrative, etc.   She understands that every person is unique and therefore needs different therapeutic interventions in order to allow for a successful therapeutic experience.

Shannell has worked in several different mental health settings. She worked at the Georgia Crisis and Access Line for 1 year in which she took crisis calls from individuals across the entire state of Georgia.  She assisted Georgia residents using brief crisis intervention techniques and linking them to resources in their communities.  She worked as an independent contractor for an agency that contracted with DFCS (Department of Family and Children Services) for about 7 years.  With the agency, she supervised visitations between parents and children who were in the foster care system.  She provided transportation services, court testimonies, parenting classes, early intervention classes to parents, and assisted families in the reunification process.  She also worked at Peachford Hospital as a case manager for about 4 years.  At Peachford, she worked with children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults.  These individuals were struggling with a wide range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, identity issues, family conflict, relationship problems, sexual trauma, PTSD, mood issues, etc.  She completed assessments, led group therapy sessions, family sessions, assisted individuals with finding resources in their communities.  Lastly, she worked with a major health insurance company in which she worked directly with mental health providers authorizing services and determining appropriate levels of care for members.

Out of all of her experiences and accomplishments, Shannell’s biggest and most important role and accomplishment is being a mother to her 6 year old son.  Shannell is a single mother which drives her passion to work with young women who are single mothers and raising children alone.  She understands this first hand making her relatable to other women who are going through similar issues.  She lives by the concept “it takes a village” and knows that everything can not be done alone; it requires a team of supportive people to help you along the way.  Shannell has a true passion of working with women’s issues and building meaningful, helping relationships.

In addition to women’s issues, Shannell’s other areas of interest and expertise includes depression, substance abuse, anxiety, family issues, stress management, relationship challenges, trust issues, behavioral modification, mood changes, bipolar disorder, prenatal issues, postpartum, blended family issues, adjustment, and crisis management.

If you are struggling with any of these issues, please call and schedule your appointment with Shannell.  She is looking forwarding to meeting with you and building a therapeutic relationship to help you get on the road to becoming the best version of yourself that you can be!!!
