APPA offers several treatment options and combinations to enhance your addiction recovery.

Addiction Recovery Psychiatry

Our board-certified psychiatrists are addiction specialists. They specialize in treating the biological components of addiction through a wide range of effective medications.

Addiction Recovery Psychotherapy

Our addiction recovery-focused psychotherapy aims to get to the underlying causes of addiction and helps the individual to experience deeper recovery through healing guilt, shame, and other emotional wounds.

Dual Diagnosis Group Psychotherapy

Dual diagnosis means someone is struggling with a major addiction as well as some other psychological problems, such as: depression, anxiety, anger management, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, etc.

Atlanta Men's Therapy Groups
Tuesdays & Wednesdays 6PM-7:30PM

We provide two psychotherapy groups for men struggling with addictions.  The maximum group size is 7. Confidentiality is emphasized. We meet weekly.

We are ideal for men who:
(1) are recovery focused,
(2) may struggle with the 12-Steps (AA, NA, etc.),
(3) want to improve their relationships,
(4) want to heal and improve their male identities, (5) who are motivated for real, lasting change in their lives.
(6) who struggle with the "Higher Power" aspect of 12-steps

Groups are therapeutic with an emphasis on peer supportiveness. We also emphasize "brain recovery" as the foundation for addiction recovery based on the book: "Unchain Your Brain," by Daniel Amen, MD along with the bio-psycho-social model for recovery success!

APPA Drug Addiction and
Alcohol Treatment Options

At APPA, you won't find a run-of-the-mill drug and alcohol treatment program. We specialize in personalized treatment approaches to help you recover from your personal substance abuse and alcohol problems. We use an evidence-based approach to addiction recovery. We specifically look at the biological and physical aspects of your addictions along with the psychological and social factors that contribute to drug or alcohol abuse, numerous failed recoveries, and triggers for relapse. We believe in creating practical treatment approaches through a combination of individual and group therapy along with medication management.
Are you struggling with an alcohol or drug addiction?

It's difficult to admit when we've got a problem. Our pride tries to keep us in a state of denial, usually until our addiction and our lives are too unmanageable. Admitting that you need help with alcohol or substance abuse takes real courage. When you've got the courage, we can help you to reclaim your life, your career, your family, and your relationships.

What is Substance Dependence?

Substance or drug dependence is a history of substance (alcohol or drug) use which includes the following: (1) substance abuse (see below); (2) continuation of use despite related problems; (3) increase in tolerance (more of the drug is needed to achieve the same effect); and (4) withdrawal symptoms.

Do you know the differences between substance abuse and substance dependence?

What is Substance Abuse? Substance abuse is a pattern of substance use leading to significant impairment in functioning. One of the following must be present within a 12 month period: (1) recurrent use resulting in a failure to fulfill major obligations at work, school, or home; (2) recurrent use in situations which are physically hazardous (e.g., driving while intoxicated); (3) legal problems resulting from recurrent use; or (4) continued use despite significant social or interpersonal problems caused by the substance use. The symptoms do not meet the criteria for substance dependence as abuse is a part of this disorder.

Treatment for Substance Dependence:

Detoxification treatment may need to be administered due to the hazards of some withdrawal symptoms. When appropriate, we have Suboxone treatments available.

Research into substance abuse and drug addiction points to a multidisciplinary treatment approach as being more successful than solely utilizing a 12-step program alone.

We use a collaborative team of board certified psychiatric physicians, psychologists, and therapists to empower our clients with a supportive therapeutic and recovery-focused environment.

A combination of treatment methods along with social support is very important. Organizations such as AA and NA can enhance your recovery experience and give you a better than average change for success in reducing relapse.
